Jhené Aiko = amazing. If you have not heard her albums Sailing Soul(s), Sail Out and Souled Out, you are definitely missing out on some great vibes. Sailing Soul(s) was her debut in 2011 and she released Sail Out in 2013. Both albums present nothing but great tracks featuring the likes of Ab Soul, Childish Gambino, and Kendrick Lamar. Her voice is light and sweet yet soulful, and her story is very relatable.
In 2014, Jhené Aiko dropped Souled Out and as a fan, I hesitated, for fear that there would be some change in her sound. But Jhené stayed true to her floating notes, melodic vocals and sweet whispers. A few days ago, her music video for Spotless Mind came out and I think it’s great. I loved the theme and the fact that she used O’Ryan, the father of her daughter, as her love interest. After watching the video with one of my friends, it appears there are two ways you can view the video:
- Jhené is visually displaying the emotional wandering that we go through internally at a rapid pace and how we are constantly in a state of change as people. Her boyfriend in the video was not happy with her constant change… or
- Jhené is visually displaying her growth and her boyfriend in the video remains stagnant and they’ve grown apart.
Take a look at the video for yourself and tell me what you think. Maybe there is yet another way to interpret it. In any case, it’s a great video with beautiful sights and sounds.
